A joyful to do list for July

Can I just take a minute to say what we’re all thinking? How the hell is it July already?! 2020 has been a strange old year, and I can’t quite believe we’re already halfway through.

I know that as we move into summer, life will still continue to look a little different for many of us. Maybe you won’t be heading off on the trip you had planned, maybe your kids’ summer holidays are taking on a new routine, maybe you’re missing the weddings and festivals that usually litter our calendars at this time of year.

But that doesn’t mean that we can’t still embrace all of the joy that this month has to offer, and that’s exactly what this post is here to inspire you to do. Here’s a joyful to do list for July…

Pick some berries

Is there anything that tastes more like summer than some freshly picked berries drizzled with cream? I don’t think so. I’ve seen lots of “pick your own” farms reopening recently, and it makes such a fun outdoor activity, particularly if the sunshine is on side. And then of course, you get to enjoy eating everything you pick!

Swim outdoors

I love swimming - I’m a water baby through and through - and with pools remaining closed and the temperatures warming up, I’ve been getting my fix with some outdoor swimming. I find that the benefits of swimming outdoors are huge, and it really does feel amazing to be at one with nature, so why not get your strokes in in the sea, a river or a lake? Just remember to be safe - never outdoor swim alone, and always check that your chosen location is appropriate.

Make a playlist of all your favourite summer songs

Music is so evocative and I always find that the right song can take me back to childhood summers and memorable holidays. Spend some time making a playlist of all your favourite summer songs, and blast it throughout the month - it’ll have you feeling good and dancing around in no time.

Sleep under the stars

With restrictions slowly starting to lift here in the UK, why not give camping a go? While tents might not always be the comfiest option, there’s something really magical about sleeping under the stars and hearing the dawn chorus as you wake up. We’ve got a camping trip planned with some friends for later in the month and I can’t wait to get my nature fix.

Slow down

The first half of this year has been intense for all of us, and it’s likely that you probably haven’t taken any time to properly slow down and relax. Having some downtime is an important part of taking good care of ourselves, so this month, commit to a couple of work or obligation free days and give yourself permission to properly switch off -  your body and mind will thank you for it.
