If you've been reading this blog for any length of time then you'll probably have already seen my food and drink guides for New York - they're filled with some of my favourite places in the city! But on our most recent trip we discovered some new (to us) gems too, and I figured it was only fair to share them with you all too. So welcome to the ultimate New York food guide: part 2 - enjoy!

BREAKFAST/BRUNCH

Black Seed Bagels

Oh how I could KILL for a Black Seed bagel right now! This seemed to be on pretty much every blogger guide we read before heading to New York and I can totally see why. Their hand rolled wood fired bagels are absolute perfection and they have a huge choice of fillings. They have 3 different locations in the city but I would recommend heading to the one in the East Village and taking a stroll around this super cool area afterwards.

Ess-A-Bagel

Another bagel recommendation, but are you even in New York if you don't eat your body weight in baked goods?! The answer is no. Sam had read that this place was a bit of an institution and it was relatively close to where we were staying, so we knew we had to put it on the list. We got ours to takeaway and walked up to enjoy them in Central Park and it was one of the loveliest moments of our trip - made even better by a very excellent bagel.

Bubby's

Bubby's is a restaurant we've passed a couple of times on previous trips and this year we finally decided to try it out. It's located right next to the exit from the High Line in Chelsea and we grabbed a table on the pavement after spending the morning strolling down from 34th St. I ordered the burger while Sam decided to try the fried chicken and waffles - both were great and we thoroughly enjoyed people watching in the sunshine while we ate.

DINNER

Tacombi

I'd read about Tacombi on some other blogs before arriving in New York, so when we stumbled across one of the locations on our first evening, we decided to give it a try. We were jet lagged and starving and the food here absolutely hit the spot. The tacos were fresh and flavoursome and the guacamole was some of the best I've ever had. The whole vibe here is very cool too - think neon lights, bright colours and warehouse styling.

Mission Chinese Food

Mission Chinese Food was the only reservation we made before arriving in New York and it's lucky that we did, as grabbing a table at this hip Chinese restaurant is notoriously difficult! The interiors are totally bonkers (we sat next to a neon fish tank!) and the food is really inventive - a lot of the flavours were different to any I'd eaten before. Definitely worth putting on your list if you're looking for some really great food in a quirky setting.

Minetta Tavern

On our most recent trip, we finally got around to visiting a New York institution - Minetta Tavern. Located in Greenwich Village, this place has been open for 80 years and they're renowned for selling one of the best burgers in the city. Sam has wanted to try their Black Label burger for years and he was not disappointed! It's also pretty cool to know that the likes of Ezra Pound, E. E. Cummings and Ernest Hemingway used to hang out here back in the day.

Roberta's

This is an absolute must visit - both Sam and I reckon that Roberta's is up there with the best pizza we have ever eaten (and between us we've eaten a LOT of pizza!). The restaurant is in trendy Bushwick and doesn't look like much at all from the outside, but once you get through the little porch, it's a super cute candlelit haven. You can also find Roberta's trading at various food markets around the city, so it's worth checking their social media if you can't get across to Brooklyn.

Vanessa's Dumpling House

If you're on the lookout for a super tasty dinner on a budget then Vanessa's Dumpling House is absolutely the place for you. They sell an epic array of dumplings and even better you can get 10 for $2! The interiors leave a lot to be desired but the food is hot, flavoursome and brilliantly priced - what more could you ask for?

SWEET TREATS

Milk Bar

I don't think there's a blogger that's been to New York that hasn't banged on about how great the ice cream at Milk Bar is - it's a bit of a hyped place, but for good reason! Remember when you were little and you'd drink the milk at the bottom of your bowl of cereal? Well that's what the ice cream tastes like here and it's uh-mazing.

Big Gay Ice Cream

This is another super yummy ice cream spot that's worth a visit if you're in New York in the summer. They started out life serving soft whip from a food truck and they were so popular that they now have branches all over the city. I can highly recommend the salty pimp cone - it's all sort of delicious!

DRINKS

The NoMad

The NoMad was top of our bar hit list and it was definitely a good idea to check it out as it's recently been named the 3rd best bar in the world! The bar is dripping with old school glamour - think high ceilings, amazing cocktails and candlelight. The perfect place to while away a New York evening.

The Four Horsemen

Owned by the lead singer of LCD Soundsystem, James Murphy, this trendy little wine bar in Williamsburg is well worth a visit if you like a glass of vino. Their wine list is extensive, but my favourite has to be the orange wine that we tried here which was so good! The food here is meant to be great too if you're hungry.

230 Fifth

If you're looking for a rooftop bar with an incredible view, then you need to get 230 Fifth on your list. It's not the nicest bar in the world and the service is pretty average, but the bang on view of the Empire State building more than makes up for that. They do some pretty good deals at happy hour so be sure to check the website out for details.
